Zoe's First Day of Preschool

Abby has decided that she wants to learn to ride her bike with no training wheels. We took her out to practice last weekend and she did great! She can go about 40 feet on her own.

Abby's On-Line Preschool Auction

Abby's preschool auction is on-line this year! Of course, that means that I've been putting a lot of time into getting it going but it's coming along well. On-line bidding goes through Noon on April 28th. We have over 125 items ranging from local restaurants, sports tickets, a Mexico vacation, a digital SLR camera, in home cooking class and a catered dinner for 6 by the chef of Cucina Calore, spa packages and tons more. We already have high bids from people in states such as NY, RI, TN, PA, and IL!

We also went sledding when we were in Winter Park - one of the girls favorite things! They had such a great time and became big fans of Brian and Tina. Zoe said Tina is her "best, best one" and Abby told us that playing with Tina was her favorite part of the weekend!

Abby's First Skiing Experience

The girls got to go up to Winter Park this weekend for their first ski lesson! They were so excited and had a great time. They started at level I (never skied before) and at the end, graduated to level II for the next time they take a lesson. Abby was the last one in her class to go inside and wished she could have stayed longer to keep skiing!

The Play Dough Snowman Family

The girls spent their Saturday morning playing with homemade play dough and they created a snowman family. The mom is, by far the biggest member of their family. I asked Abby why the mom was the biggest (fearing the answer might be that she actually thinks mommy is physically bigger than daddy), but she said it's just because that's the way she likes it :) Good thing! I was starting to get a complex.

Help Save Seasonal Consignment Sales

A new law, CPSIA (Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act) passed back in August, 2008 and will go into effect on February 10th. Most of you know I used to run a seasonal kids consignment sale so this issue is important to me.

The law will require all children's items including clothes, toys, baby equipment, etc. to be lead tested before it can be sold, or in this case, re-sold. The original intent of the law is good and goes a long way toward protecting children from accidental lead poisoning. However, it appears the law was hastily put together and rushed through Congress with little thought as to how it could unintentionally affect other industries.

Essentially, this law makes any children's product that has not been specifically tested for lead levels a "Federally Hazardous Substance" illegal to sell. It will also apply retroactively so after Feb. 10, 2009, selling of any children's product that has not been specifically tested for lead will be a crime. This affects our seasonal consignment events, consignment stores, thrift stores, yard sales, etc.

Please take a moment to vote here to try to get congress to take another look at this before it goes into effect.

We got Guitar Hero with a Christmas gift certificate after being introduced to it by Ali and Kirk. The girls all took their turns (when the adults would let them :)), playing the drums, guitars, singing and dancing.

Kirk was the guitar master with Justin as a close second.

Emily came to visit for a little bit on Christmas Day before heading off with her dad.

The day after Christmas, Grandpa Ken, Grandma Marianne, Aunt Ali, Uncle Kirk and Cousin Maya came to stay with us for 4 days. We all had a great time and were so glad they were able to come visit!

We had Thanskgiving dinner with the whole family at Grandma and Grandpa's Thursday then headed up to Keystone for our 11th annual 4-day weekend in the mountains. This year we have 14 adults and 7 kids. Anita brought up a pinata for the kids the first night and they had a great time exploring the enourmous house.

We took the girls camping with us for the first time (we took Abby once when she was a baby but she doesn't remember it). We found a great place to build a campfire and pitch the tent on our land in Fairplay. The girls did great! Zoe claims not to like roasted marshmallows and refused to eat a smore. She was content to eat the 'unroasted' marshmallows, pieces of chocolate and graham crackers though as long as they didn't touch each other.

The girls, Grandpa and I took a quick trip to Santa Fe last week and visited with Great Aunt Sally & Uncle Buck. The girls were a big fan of Santa Fe, especially the restaurants! We went to Gabriel's where they make table-side quacamole and the girls ate the entire bowl! Then we went to Tiny's twice because they loved the sopapillas, salsa and the cool fountain.

After about 2.5 years in her beautiful handcrafted crib from Brian, Zoe just graduated to a big girl bed. This one, handcrafted by Grandpa Jarl. Zoe absolutely loves it and Abby thinks it's a great playhouse! What a lucky kid Zoe is to have a slide, a playhouse and a bed all in one. I'm not sure she is ever going to sleep again :)

Well we finally did it - we took the girls to Casa Bonita! They loved it and the food was...edible. Abby was even brave enough to go into Black Bart's Cave! Abby is having a hard time remembering that it's called 'Casa Bonita' and keeps telling everyone we went to a place called 'Erik and Anita's'. Bonita...Anita...I can see the confusion.

This took WAY too long to post, but here it is! Tami, Matt and Sydney came to Colorado a couple of weeks ago for a visit. We kept very busy going to Pirates Cove, Highlands Ranch water park, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, Grandma Sherry's Birthday Party at Silo Park, Concert at Crescent Park, a Rockies Game, riding the train downtown to the Rio and just hanging out. A few pictures are posted here, but an entire slide show (well actually 2 in case you just want to see the condensed version) can be viewed here.

There is a great neighborhood parade and pool party here that we went to this year. The girls decorated their bikes and got to be in the parade along with all the other neighborhood kids and the fire truck! Janelle came along with us - which was a good thing because we had three adults to two kids on bikes and still brought up the rear of the parade! We also met up with Todd and Ronda for the festivities.

Then we went to the neighborhood pool for a giant BBQ. Todd took Jackson for his first ever swim in the baby pool. Zoe is sporting her cool new 'turtle' suit. It might look funny, but we sure love it! Well, Justin and I do anyway. She can float in the pool without us having to hold on to her!
